How to Access Yahoo! Messenger from Code (Change Status, Log In/Out, etc.) (VB Example)

The day before yesterday, a few classmates got bored and started passing around prank programs that change Yahoo! Messenger statuses. That gave me the inspiration to design an advanced version of this status prank program. Writing a program that changes the status in Yahoo! Messenger is actually not hard, because Yahoo itself provides a COM component that makes it easy to configure the messenger. This COM component is called YahooMessengerLib. As far as I know, it can do the following: change the status, get the current status, and log in or out of Yahoo! Messenger. So let me show you how to use the YahooMessengerLib COM component~...

Encrypt Your Instant Messages with MSNShell and SimpLite-Yahoo to Prevent Admin Snooping

Yesterday, while reading the newspaper, I came across an article saying that a supervisor at 104 Job Bank had been monitoring employees’ instant messages. I won’t comment on that, since it’s an adult matter. From the company’s point of view, of course they want to take measures to prevent employees from leaking information, and the company had told employees that instant messaging software would be monitored. But from the employee’s point of view, it must be really annoying, since nobody likes being watched. Oops, I’ve drifted off topic a bit~~ Anyway, this post is going to teach you to use two programs: MSNShell and SimpLite-Yahoo. ...

Jeremy Brand Answer Machine V1.7: An Auto-Reply Tool That Works With Any Version of Instant Messenger

The Jeremy Brand Answer Machine, an auto-answering program for instant messengers, is yet another program by my good friend Jeremy, as the name suggests. The biggest feature of Jeremy Brand Answer Machine is that it supports automatic replies on any version of an instant messenger. I think most people who have used an instant messenger have rarely seen an auto-reply tool for one. Usually only MSN has one. My guess is that’s because Yahoo doesn’t open up its plugin interface, so there are almost no plugins for its instant messenger. So how does Jeremy Brand Answer Machine send auto-replies? The principle is simple, somewhat like a “craftsman’s philosophy” (a plain, hands-on, brute-force approach): when the instant messenger window pops up, the program just sends a message to that window to produce the reply. And because Jeremy Brand Answer Machine doesn’t use any instant messenger API, it works with any version. Below, let me introduce the Jeremy Brand Answer Machine! ※ If you’ve read the tutorial and still can’t use it, feel free to leave a comment and ask me. ...

Yahoo's Official Web-Based Messenger, with Traditional Chinese Support

Yahoo!Messenger for web(referred to as WebMessenger in this post) is a web-based messenger released officially by Yahoo Kimo. WebMessenger comes with a variety of built-in languages, including Traditional Chinese. On top of that, WebMessenger automatically saves your chat history. The only catch is that WebMessenger requires Flash to work, and it doesn't support multi-person conferences. Still, overall WebMessenger is pretty handy — for a while, whenever my computer didn't have a messenger installed, I just used the online messenger on the WebMessenger site. URL http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ . ...

ebuddy: Online Instant Messaging with Yahoo, MSN, GTalk, and QQ Support (With Tutorial)

ebuddy is a web-based instant messaging site that I’ve found quite good so far. It supports many different instant messaging services, including well-known ones like Yahoo Messenger, MSN, GTalk, and QQ (which is popular in mainland China). ebuddy also supports Facebook, though I don’t really understand what Facebook has to do with instant messaging = =. Besides supporting many IM services, ebuddy also offers many languages, including Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and English, so you don’t have to worry about not understanding the interface. But what I like best about ebuddy is that it lets you sign up for one account and manage all your different IM accounts together. That way, you only need to remember one account, which is like remembering many accounts ^^ This article will introduce how to log in to ebuddy, change the language, and use your ebuddy ID. ...
