SSH comes built into almost every Linux system. It makes it easy to connect to and manage your host. Once you are connected over SSH, you can do a lot of work on your server. But that also makes SSH a likely target for attacks. The default SSH port is 22, so if someone guesses your password, your server is in serious danger. That is why this post covers a second layer of protection: changing the default port. With that in place, an attacker needs to know not only your password, but also which port you are using.

[VPS] Tips for Buying a VPS, and a Recommended Provider: PhotonVPS

If you've been reading this site's "About" page, or following me on Plurk and Facebook, you'll know this site recently switched to a VPS~ In fact, it's been about three weeks since the switch. On the day I switched, I meant to write a post introducing VPS, but midterms were coming up and I didn't have time. After midterms, I went back to classes at Beishang, and I kept putting it off until now, when I finally have time to write this. 0.0
